It's nice to be welcome!
Today was the first meeting of three activists of the Serbski Sejm and the new SPD MEP Matthias Ecke in his Dresden constituency office. Topics included the establishment of a democratic representation of people who profess to belong to the Sorbian people - of Sorbian or other origin -, thoughts on the recognition of the indigeneity of the Sorbian people, possibilities of equal co-determination of the people living in Lusatia when it comes to the transformation of this region. There is a great willingness in the Sejm to contribute to better cohesion in the European Union through cross-border cultural and democratic work. To this end, its members would like to see more acceptance of the wishes for co-determination or self-administration in the political sphere. In order for Europe-wide projects like „Slavonic Europe“ to succeed, support is needed in European politics.
Měrćin Krawc, Hagen Domaška and Christine Ruby had many questions for Matthias Ecke. They thanked him warmly for being an open-minded, understanding listener. Everyone could agree on the motto: „Turning borders into welds“.
